Mediation

Mediation is one of the Alternative Dispute Resolutions for couples going through the process of separation. It will settle things such as; custody, parenting time, child support, etc. Mediation differs from litigation because mediation does not involve going to court. As such, it is a much cheaper alternative to litigation. Mediation also tends to be used when both parties are amicable. Do keep in mind that mediation is a 100% voluntary process meaning that the mediator has no power to compel anyone to attend mediation, nor to enforce any agreement. It is also crucial to keep in mind that if your mediation is successful in reaching a Mediated Agreement, this document is not legally binding. It can however, be turned into a separation agreement or other form of contract.
